What Our Land Provides

mulberries

The other day, as Karl and I were walking around the yard, identifying plants and talking about what we wanted to put where, we happened upon a small tree that neither of us knew. It looked different… like nothing I had ever seen before. After some iPhone research from the front yard, I discovered it was a mulberry tree! A mulberry tree! And, there were two others just like it. Sure enough, they even have little mulberries growing on them already. This is what my dreams are made of.

We’re so thankful for everything we have on our beautiful piece of land. The mulberry discovery got us talking about all the edibles around us, and we started listing off all of the food, both planted by us, and growing wild that we have here.

Our goal is to grow as many unique, unusual, useful and edible plants as we can. I love the idea of growing food, not lawn. And if we’re going to plant something pretty, something for shade, or something for a border- why not make it something edible?

Here’s what we’ve got growing! (Of course, not including the garden and other annuals).
