It was through developing that guidebook—testing countless freezer recipes and eating a tremendous amount of extraordinary frozen food—that I realized we had only scratched the surface. And hearing all your wonderful feedback gave me the confidence to expand the boundaries of how produce could be frozen.
Freeze Fresh Meal Prep isn’t your typical “freezer meals” book. The focus of these recipes is on freezing what’s in season and available now, with an eye to having prepared or partially prepared dishes for later. It’s right at the intersection of where preserving meets convenience food!

In this book you’ll find recipes for prepared baked goods, soups, sauces, vegetable side dishes, cooked fruits, pie fillings, jams, and frozen treats. You’ll also find recipes for “starters,” which is one of my most beloved categories to freeze. A starter is typically the vegetable and herb portion of a recipe cooked together and frozen. There are soup starters, meal starters, and even dip starters! It’s a way to preserve the fresh ingredients you have now but not take up more freezer space than necessary. Making the dish is as simple as thawing the starter and adding pantry staples or refrigerated ingredients to complete it. It’s the ultimate meal prep and the perfect balance of home-cooked and convenient!
Are the recipes gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegetarian?
All of the general freezing instructions in this book can be adapted to a gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, or vegan diet. In an effort to make preserving as accessible as possible for people who have different food allergies, sensitivities, and preferences, the 161 recipes in this book are largely made with real, whole foods, and are very adaptable to many different dietary considerations.
Does Freeze Fresh Meal Prep have gluten-free recipes?
Yes! Out of 161 recipes, 118 are naturally gluten-free. An additional 40 recipes are gluten-free with the use of gluten-free flour, gluten-free pasta, or a gluten-free bread product like hamburger buns. I am mostly gluten-free myself, and all of my recipes were tested with all-purpose flour and gluten-free flour blends to ensure they work for a wide variety of people. There are only 3 recipes in Freeze Fresh Meal Prep that don’t work well gluten-free.
Does Freeze Fresh Meal Prep have dairy-free recipes?
Yes! Out of 161 recipes, 84 are naturally dairy-free. An additional 35 recipes can be made dairy-free with a simple swap like using olive instead of butter, coconut milk instead of dairy milk, or by omitting a sprinkle of cheese on top. When counting which recipes could be dairy-free, I used the strictest requirements, asking myself: “would I personally make this without the dairy and do I think it would still taste good.” This means that there are even more recipes that could be adapted to being dairy-free, especially if you’re seasoned at swapping ingredients.
Does Freeze Fresh Meal Prep have vegetarian recipes?
Yes! Because the focus of Freeze Fresh Meal Prep is on preserving fresh fruits and vegetables, it is very accommodating to a vegetarian diet. Out of 161 recipes, 128 are naturally vegetarian. An additional 4 recipes could be easily vegetarian by omitting the meat and still work. These numbers includes recipes with eggs, honey, and dairy, and exclude recipes with meat, fish, or gelatin. Freeze Fresh Meal Prep is also very accommodating to a vegan diet or plant-based lifestyle, and many of the recipes are very adaptable to vegan food substitutes.
